hISTORY & photo's OF 1ST RAMSEY GROUP.
Please excuse the mess, this page is an ongoing project as very few locals have yet stepped forward with information regarding the history of 1st Ramsey, nor it's building affectionately & historically accurately referred to as "the old fire station"
If we find pictures & info we will put them here for posterity, in no particular order, we need local assistance from those in the know, our group history is fast approaching 100 years of scouting IF we "assume" our creation was 1921, ..it's the oldest marker (see below) as to 1st Ramsey's existence we hold at this time...
Please ask your friends & family as to local history, you are local & therefore part of that ongoing history.

1st Ramsey Scouts is one of the oldest Scout Groups in both district & county.
The Group was initially registered with the Scouting association in May 1920.
We are a very active Group with thriving Beavers & Cubs sections. We like to think that we provide traditional scouting and yet embrace modern times.
The reason why Scouting remains the largest youth movement in the world is that it’s got great core values: it’s faith, it’s about friendship, it’s about fun and so much of who we are as an adult is formed when we are kids. As our current "celebrity" Chief Scout Bear Grylls stated...
“Every child has the right to an adventure. Life is about grabbing opportunities. The prizes don’t always go to the biggest, the best and the strongest – they go to those who persevere. These are simple life lessons that Scouting teaches.”
"A Good Scout Aims For the "Three H's". That is to Say He Makes Himself Healthy, Happy & Helpful" - Baden Powell, 1921

Clearly a BIG pack back in the 1920's ...the lettered ensigns spell out "Freely Given" in the background is a recruiting placard being held aloft, it reads "We will be helping, will you"?
A third placard (on the left & partly obscured) reads "Help the sick"
We think the photo may have been taken in an area of Ramsey that was demolished as part of a housing estate in the 1980's housing boom.

1975 to 1985 - Ramsey Retained Fire Service
1975 to 1985 - Ramsey Retained Fire Service part of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, based on the clear location of the picture (the abbey) & the size of the very small fire engine, this could well be the last fire engine which would have fitted in "the old fire station" ..now 1st ramsey scouting HQ.

Looking so much different then, our hut HQ appears to have more buildings around it from this angle.
Quite a recent photo, but still over 30 years old.. I think cubs & beavers ought to update the view in coming months! ..don't you!?
