We recently had reason to call one of our local Tesco stores with a plea for "help" from 1st Ramsey group & had a chat about what is going on at Sapley road Tesco in Huntingdon....
It is a really great community spirited initiative that is happening as Tesco periodically "refresh" stores & as the contractors hit Huntingdon to update Tesco they are really giving back to the local community in the form of a very large publicly accessible "community building" within the store...
Whilst not officially opening until the 13th of October 2014 we got the heads up from the stores community champions as to what the store is doing to "give back" & assist the locality in which it serves.
The community building ( imagine a hall within the store) is kitted out with a handful of online lap-tops to assist users who they envisage needing to pull up information for general purposes.
Fold away tables & chairs, ..so the floor space can be used as required ....yes, even for messy craft projects!
Free Tea & coffee facilities ... because all that group socialising can make you thirsty!
The new Community room is open "FREE" to the general public by booking directly with the local community champion team who oversee the whole project ...& that means it is open to groups young or old, week in week out!
We recommend you pop in on the opening day for a chat & a look round if this sounds like a possible venue for groups your parents or carers may belong to!

& yes, we have already been informed Huntingdon tesco IS available to Ramsey residents.
...We are waiting to speak to the stores contractors with regards to our original enquiry /request, which if Tesco can oblige us with redundant equipment they are changing as part of the sapley Tesco Extra store refresh could save us the equivilent of around 6 years fundraising cash (well, we are only a small group) whilst providing improved facilities to our cubs, beavers, church & playgroups who also use our HQ hall...
This would allow us as a group to #reduce #reuse & #recycle & save unwanted items from landfill & get on with a project we have envisaged for several years now!
