I learn to cook something or simply practise with my dad most weeks, recently I made roast Pork with crackling that is WAY better than my mums!
When I have a lesson with my dad we try to make things with similar ingredients or do the same recipe 2,3, or 4 times over so after being shown a few times I can take over & make things with just a little or no help!
Roast pork is really easy because it basically involves using a sharp stanley knife ..(get help from a grown up)! to heavily score a criss cross pattern deep into the fatty layer (with adult help ..or you could ask the butcher to do that bit for you) then you get good & messy & use olive oil , pepper, salt & herbs (whatever you like really) & rub it EVERYWHERE into the pork for a few minutes, cutting into the pork fat allows the oil to get in & help the fat swell & catch air when it cooks ...so you get light crackling & tasty pork as good as mine!
Or you could just ask to try making crackling on it's own (they sell it for about £1 at Morrisons near Peterborough ..just in case you're worried about the results.
Why not ask if you can give it a go?
